When you drink wine, cheese is probably one of the first things that comes to mind as a great pairing.
Recently, a wide variety of cheeses from around the world have become available in Japan.
If you visit department store food halls or specialty cheese shops, you'll find an array of items from authentic cheese-producing countries like France and Italy. If you're unsure what to choose, shop staff will offer advice like a sommelier on wine pairings, other ingredients, occasions, and serving ideas.
Moreover, even at everyday supermarkets without making a special trip to a specialty store, you can now easily find plenty of delicious cheeses.
Being able to get them easily at affordable prices means you can prepare perfect pairing snacks even for casual occasions with friends or family, like saying, "Shall we open a bottle of wine?" It really is a wonderful luxury.
This time, Megmilk Snow Brand's "Cheese Club" shared recipes from two cheese professionals, teaching us cheese arrangement ideas suited for wine-drinking occasions using cheeses you can easily buy at supermarkets!
The paired wines are a crisp, refreshing sparkling wine perfect for the still-warm season, and a satisfying white wine to savor thoroughly.
Both are made from Japan's representative white wine grape variety, "Koshu." Just like the cheese, they are "easily accessible" Japanese wines!

CHAPTER 02
Entertaining on a Budget of Around 6,000 Yen Edition!
Next up is the ~6,000 yen budget edition.
When the budget for both wine and cheese goes up, the table becomes even more lavish.
And believe it or not, the main attraction is a cake!
The inside was actually Camembert. A genuine "cheesecake," indeed.
And while the total comes to 6,000 yen, the cheese portion serves 5 to 6 people, making it a fantastic value per person.

How did you enjoy creating an entertaining table with easily accessible cheeses and Japanese wine?
You don't need to go out of your way to visit a specialty shop—these cheeses are relatively easy to find in standard supermarket cheese sections.
Furthermore, the extra ingredients used for styling—such as black pepper, nuts, cucumber, and potatoes—are basic staples found in most home kitchens.
Without overthinking wine and cheese, doesn't creating simple pleasures like this feel like a great way to add a touch of glamour and richness to your daily life?
