ABOUT

Kizan Wine is based primarily on grapes from its own vineyards,

and uses only grapes grown in the eastern Yamanashi area, making it truly a wine of Yamanashi.

It is a small winery run entirely by the family,

making wines firmly rooted in the local region.

FEATURE STORY

Viticulture

The Kofu Basin is surrounded by overlapping ranges of mountains. Kizan Wine is located in Enzan, Koshu City, in the northeastern part of this basin, where many kinds of fruit grow abundantly. Wine is nurtured by the land.

In its approximately one-hectare estate vineyard, the winery grows Koshu and Black Queen as well as European varieties including Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Kizan Wine's richly fruited style is born from the well-drained sandy soils deposited by the Fuefuki River.

Winemaking

Carefully cultivated, high-quality grapes.

The winery's task is to express their character as fully as possible in wine.

Close attention is paid throughout every stage of production in order to create balanced, high-quality wines.

While incorporating technical knowledge from overseas, the winery continues to approach winemaking with a constant desire to improve.

Philosophy

Koshu is a grape variety nurtured by the climate and landscape of Yamanashi.

This uniquely Japanese variety can do more than produce well-balanced white wine.

Traditional methods can reveal many different possibilities, from sparkling wine made by the Champagne method to long-aged brandy distilled in a Charentais still.

When the gifts of nature and human craftsmanship come into harmony, wine is created that enriches and adds color to people's lives.
