About the “Discover Tomioka Today” Tour
The tour is being organized by Tomioka Town in Fukushima Prefecture and The Sankei Shimbun, which are recruiting participants from the Tokyo metropolitan area, with Winds Travel Co., Ltd. operating the trips.
The aim is to help participants learn about Tomioka's present-day recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake and the accident at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, dispel reputational damage, and support the town's reconstruction.
Program Overview
Participants will try flounder fishing from a fishing boat, cook and enjoy their catch at a fish-cooking class and dinner, observe radioactive-material testing at a food inspection facility, and learn about food safety and radiation levels while touring the town's recovery sites.
Participants will also share their experiences on their own social-media accounts, helping more people learn about Tomioka today.
The itinerary includes a harvest experience and wine pairing at Tomioka Winery, located in front of Tomioka Station.
