Western Cuisine NiNi Launches New Series to “Read, Learn and Taste” the Appeal of Hokkaido Wine

Western Cuisine NiNi has launched a new serial feature inviting readers to “read, learn and taste” the appeal of Hokkaido wine.

The column project is a collaboration between J.S.A. Wine Expert and Wine Life Coordinator Saori Abe and Western Cuisine NiNi.

About the column series

As a new initiative to communicate the appeal of Hokkaido Japanese wine from multiple perspectives, Western Cuisine NiNi is collaborating with J.S.A. Wine Expert and Wine Life Coordinator Saori Abe.

The first project, the serial column “Hokkaido Wine Journey: Saori Abe × Western Cuisine NiNi,” began on the official website on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

The series visits wineries around Hokkaido, introducing producers’ ideas, the character of each place, and the realities of winemaking. Through pairings with dishes from Western Cuisine NiNi, it also presents new ways to enjoy Hokkaido Japanese wine and explores how wine is beginning to shape local communities.

“Hokkaido Wine Journey: Saori Abe × Western Cuisine NiNi”

Saori Abe will visit and report on wineries across Hokkaido, introducing producer perspectives, local character, and winemaking scenes while also focusing on wine-promotion initiatives unique to Hokkaido’s wine regions.

Each installment will also introduce pairings of Hokkaido wine with dishes proposed by NiNi’s Chef Shishido and Sommelier Ikedo.

The series will suggest new ways to enjoy wine.

It is a chance to discover the current state and appeal of Hokkaido wine.
