Must-See for Small Wineries: Nihon Rosuiki Kogyo Launches Wine Filter Rental Service

Nihon Rosuiki Kogyo Co., Ltd., now in its 107th year, has launched a new initiative: rental of wine-filtration equipment for small wineries.

Here are the details.

The current situation for wine filters

Since the spread of designated wine-production zones in the 2010s, more new entrants have opened wineries and the number of small wineries has continued to grow.

However, the initial investment required for winemaking equipment can be substantial, making filtration systems difficult to introduce.

Because wine production is seasonal, small wineries with limited output may also hesitate to buy equipment that would be used only a few times a year.

To address these issues, Nihon Rosuiki Kogyo has launched a wine-filter rental business, still relatively unusual in Japan.

Proper filtration can help prevent refermentation, making it easier to distribute wine with confidence.

Features of Nihon Rosuiki Kogyo’s filters

Filtration removes haze and microorganisms from wine and helps maintain clarity and stability.

Functions include clarification and stabilization.

By improving stability and enabling safer distribution, filtration can help broaden the base of Japan’s wine industry and contribute to bringing Japanese wine to markets around the world.

Nihon Rosuiki Kogyo uses a special filter.

With ordinary paper or cartridge filters, clogged filter media must be replaced. The company’s ceramic filter, CERAPORE, can instead be removed and brushed when clogged, exposing a fresh filtration surface and restoring performance.

This feature lowers running costs compared with other filter media.

The filter can be reused and is positioned as an environmentally friendly and distinctive product in Japan.

The company has first launched rental of a unit using one CERAPORE filter with a processing capacity of around 300 L/h.

It also plans to produce and rent a three-filter wine filtration system with a processing capacity of around 1,000 L/h.
