Nakaizu Winery Hills has begun this year's grape harvest and winemaking and will release “Izu Nouveau,” the first wine made from the new crop.
The winery says the quality of this year's grapes is raising expectations for the vintage.
Here are the details.
About This Year's Grapes
This year's harvest at Nakaizu Winery Hills began in mid-August with white-wine varieties and concluded on Saturday, October 18, with the red-wine varieties.
Including both principal and trial varieties, the winery grows more than 20 grape varieties. With little rainfall during the summer, the berries remained small and concentrated, raising hopes for the quality of this year's vintage.
About “Izu Nouveau”
“Izu Nouveau” is released as the first wine made from the newly harvested grapes, in gratitude for another successful growing season and harvest.
At Nakaizu Winery Hills, it will be released on Saturday, November 1.
The white wine is made from Shinano Riesling, while the red is made from Yama Sauvignon.
The winery hopes drinkers will enjoy the fresh aromas and flavors before the wines undergo aging.
On the release day, Saturday, November 1, a vineyard event is also planned, with Izu Nouveau served in the vineyard.
The first glass will be complimentary.
