Student-Run by Kyorin University’s Okuma Seminar! “My First Wine Party” on Sept. 12 Aims to Change Young People’s Image That “Wine Is Difficult”

On September 12, 2026, six students from Kyorin University’s Okuma Seminar will hold a wine event for beginners in collaboration with the Nagano Tourism Organization and STARRACE KOMORO, a winery facility in Komoro City.

Designed to change young people’s perceptions that “wine is difficult” and “wine feels intimidating,” the event takes the form of a prom-style garden party.

About “My First Wine Party — Encounter Wine and Add New Color to Your Life”

“My First Wine Party — Encounter Wine and Add New Color to Your Life” is an event organized by six students from Kyorin University’s Okuma Seminar in collaboration with the Nagano Tourism Organization and STARRACE KOMORO, a winery facility in Komoro City.

The prom-style garden party was planned to change young people’s perceptions that “wine is difficult” and “wine feels intimidating.” Through comparative wine tasting, pairings with local ingredients, interaction with producers, craft activities and more, the event offers an easygoing way to enjoy both wine and the appeal of Komoro.

Seminar Students Take on Planning and Operations

The students planned and are operating the event themselves, aiming to overturn the idea among young people that “wine is intimidating” or “you need knowledge to enjoy it,” and to make wine feel more approachable through a prom-style garden party.

Another distinctive feature is that the students are taking the lead not only in planning, but also in publicity and other aspects of the event.

Participants will be able to compare four wines and two juices from Komorokko Farm & Winery while listening to explanations from the winemaker.

The program also includes pairings with dishes made from local ingredients, workshops to make original cork key holders and bookmarks, and a talk show themed around relocation and the appeal of the region, offering a chance to experience what makes Komoro unique.

Admission is ¥6,000 for adults and ¥4,995 for students, with free refills of wine and juice. The organizers aim to create an event that can be enjoyed casually not only by wine beginners, but also by people in their 20s looking for a new hobby or new encounters.

It is a fresh and unique approach created by young people themselves.
