Pruning Superstar Marco Simonit Invited to Japan! Special Lecture at the 5th JVA Symposium on December 20

On Saturday, December 20, 2025, the Japan Viticulture Association will welcome Marco Simonit for a special lecture at its 5th symposium.

It is a rare opportunity to see one of the world’s superstars of vine pruning in Japan.

Here are the details.

About Marco Simonit

Marco Simonit, the guest lecturer at the 5th JVA Symposium, is one of the world’s leading authorities on vine-pruning theory.

He has advised more than 150 top wineries around the world and has been called the “king of pruning” and a “superstar of the pruning world” by Jancis Robinson. On this visit, he will make his first comprehensive tour of Japanese wine-grape regions.

His clients include such world-famous estates as Château d’Yquem, Château Angélus, Domaine Leflaive, Louis Roederer, Biondi-Santi, Ferrari, Stag’s Leap, and Quintessa.

Drawing on that experience, Simonit will give a special lecture on vine-training methods and approaches to pruning.

Program

During this trip to Japan, Simonit will visit major wine regions in Yamanashi and Nagano.

At the lecture, he is expected to explain for Japanese growers, for the first time, how his pruning theory can be adapted to grapevines under Japan’s climate, including specific training methods and pruning concepts.

Consider attending this rare world-class lecture.
