HAKUHODO Furusato Biz Launches Artist-Collaboration Regional Product Project, Starting with Support for Japanese Wine

Hakuhodo Inc.'s Mirai Design Business Unit has updated the hands-on product development service offered through HAKUHODO Furusato Biz.

It is launching a regional specialty-product development project that supports local industries through collaboration with well-known talents and artists.

The first initiative will develop products supporting Japanese-wine businesses in regional communities.

Here are the details.

About the HAKUHODO Furusato Biz Regional Product Development Project

Japan's primary industries have faced intensifying price competition with imported agricultural products, while sharp increases in raw-material costs such as fertilizer, feed and fuel, together with rising electricity and other energy costs, have put pressure on producers' businesses.

In regional areas, aging and declining numbers of primary-industry workers and a shortage of successors are also becoming serious, raising concerns about more abandoned farmland and weakening local vitality.

Against this background, HAKUHODO Furusato Biz has launched a regional specialty-product project involving talents and artists to support local industries.

By combining artists' ability to spread information and the enthusiasm of their fan communities with the business-design capabilities and creativity of Hakuhodo's Mirai Design Business Unit, which has worked on businesses addressing social issues, the project aims to develop products and services for regional industries. Working with local governments to communicate their appeal, it seeks to contribute to growth and revenue generation in regional industries.

First Project: A Popular Band Develops Japanese Wine

The first initiative is a Japanese-wine industry promotion project partnered with popular girls band SILENT SIREN.

SILENT SIREN, which operates the wine-related community “Chateau,” is collaborating with Fukushima Farmer's Dream Winery, a business in Fukushima Prefecture, the home prefecture of vocalist and guitarist Suu, to develop a Japanese wine that goes on sale August 18.

Band members handled the naming and package design and will also participate in promotion.

HAKUHODO Furusato Biz plans future collaborations with Japanese-wine businesses in various regions, including the hometowns of other members. Beyond specialty-product development, it intends to support the Japanese-wine industry through a range of approaches.
