On February 8, 2025, local time in France, Yoichi Town in Hokkaido and Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy, France, signed a friendship city agreement.

Nearly Two Years of Negotiations
Yoichi is an area producing a diverse range of fruit, and in recent years it has become a major Japanese wine region noted for high-quality wine grapes grown in a climate similar to Burgundy.
Gevrey-Chambertin, meanwhile, is world-renowned as one of Burgundy’s most prestigious wine-producing villages.
The agreement was reached after nearly two years of negotiations, with the aim of deepening mutual exchange through wine culture by building on similarities in climate, soils, and other conditions.
Mutually Beneficial Cooperation
Under the agreement, the two municipalities plan to cooperate for mutual benefit in the following areas.
