THE CITY BAKERY, the New York-born bakery operated by FONZ Co., Ltd., has begun serving an orange wine made from grapes grown at its own “FZ farm Furusato Vineyard” and vinified at Kyoto Winery Shijo Kawaramachi Brewing.
Here are the details.
FZ farm Furusato Vineyard
FZ farm Furusato Vineyard is an estate vineyard operated by FONZ Co., Ltd., which runs THE CITY BAKERY.
In May 2025, the company took over a vineyard with a 50-year history, and harvested four grape varieties there for the first time last autumn.
The first vintage made with Chardonnay harvested at the estate was vinified at the urban winery Kyoto Winery Shijo Kawaramachi Brewing.
About the Wine
The first-vintage wine is the Japanese wine “Chardonnay Furusato Vineyard 2025.”
To draw out the grapes’ potential as fully as possible, the wine was macerated with the skins and seeds, producing an orange wine with delicate tannin and bitterness and nuances reminiscent of kumquat.
It is a pure expression made without added antioxidants and bottled unfiltered.
The wine can be enjoyed casually at THE CITY BAKERY restaurants, so be sure to check it out.
