Baeren Brewery and Morioka Apples Team Up on New “Morioka Apple Dry Cider,” Now on Sale

Morioka City has introduced the development of “Morioka Apple Dry Cider” as a case study using a city subsidy program.

The new product is a collaboration between Baeren Brewery and Morioka apples.

Here are the details.

Morioka Gastronomy Innovation Project Subsidy

Morioka City is working toward its vision of becoming a “Morioka Gastronomy Kingdom.”

Beginning in fiscal 2025, the city launched the “Morioka Gastronomy Innovation Project Subsidy” as part of efforts to connect agriculture with other industries.

The program supports businesses inside and outside the city that develop new products or expand sales channels using Morioka’s rich agricultural and livestock products. Its goals are to increase use of Morioka-grown products and raise awareness of Morioka as a production area.

About “Baeren Our Hour Morioka Apple Dry Cider”

The newly developed product is “Baeren Our Hour Morioka Apple Dry Cider.”

Made with 100% Morioka apples, the product aims to use the expanding cider market to communicate the appeal of Morioka apples both inside and outside Iwate Prefecture while increasing the added value of local agricultural products and recognition of the regional brand.

Morioka apples have a history as the first apples cultivated on Japan’s main island of Honshu and remain a specialty of Morioka City, which has the largest production volume in Iwate Prefecture. The cider is a fresh, dry, lightly sparkling wine designed to express their terroir to the fullest.

A limited 7,500 bottles are being sold at the Kitayama factory shop in Morioka, the Baeren web shop, supermarkets and liquor stores in Iwate, department stores, antenna shops, and other outlets.
