The 7th OIV-Registered Variety Summit will be held at the National Association of Towns and Villages Building on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
This seventh edition focuses on two varieties: Yamasachi, marking five years since its OIV registration, and Ryugan, for which registration efforts are currently under way.
Here are the details.
About the 7th OIV-Registered Variety Summit
The summit considers the value and future of Japanese indigenous grape varieties registered with the OIV, the International Organisation of Vine and Wine, from a range of perspectives.
Researchers, producers, distributors, and wine lovers gather once a year for the event.
This seventh edition will focus on Yamasachi, five years after OIV registration, and Ryugan, currently moving toward registration.
Program
Experts and producers in Nagano Prefecture closely involved with Ryugan will discuss the path toward registration and its future. Producers from the Tokachi area of Hokkaido will then join a panel discussion on changes in the five years since Yamasachi was registered with the OIV and its new prospects.
The summit will also preview the next edition, which is expected to cover Muscat Bailey A, a Japanese indigenous variety that will mark the 100th anniversary of its creation in 2027.
In the second-half tasting session, participants will freely taste about 15 wines made from Japanese indigenous varieties, centered on Ryugan and Yamasachi, together with cheese and bread.
Organizers hope participants will experience the appeal and potential of these varieties through taste.
